My Onondaga name is Dehowähda·dih which is roughly translated to, "He goes running." Onondaga names are given to us in a naming ceremony by our Clan Mothers. Our names are very important to the Haudenosaunee. Not only are they individualized, but they also serve as a pathway for medicine. Once I pass, the name, Dehowähda·dih, will be returned to my Clan Mother's bag of names. That she will use again for another Onondaga Eel Clan child.
